Vineyards
Our vineyards are located on the edge of the old and idillic cellar village of Nová Vieska, on the most excellent slopes of the Somlyó-hill, facing Southwest.
This area is also known by the name János-hill in our village. This is a 12 hectare area, which gave place to small cellars and vineyards before the world wars.
During the deprivatisation, these estates were amerced, the cellars were demolished, then the integrated land was cultivated as large-scale vineyards, later it was also liquidated and crop production was in progress for a few decades, always unsuccesfully.
Despite of these facts, the old names of the vineyard blocks tided over hard times.
Based on these, this land consists of five blocks: Búcsi, Borjúsok, Öreghegy, Nagyhegy, Újhegy.
This hillside lies only 8 kilometres from the river Danube, open towards the river, which makes our weather windy and breezy 365 days a year, thusly helping our organic viticulture.
We planted our 12 hectare vineyard on this exceptionally located hill-side in 2008 and 2009. Our varieties are: Feteasca regala, Sauvignon blanc, Traminer, Welscriesling, Pinot blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot gris, Pinot noir, Blaufrankisch and Dunaj.
The soils of are vineyard are limestone and sandstone based loess and brown forest soils. Because of the few-decade-long cultivation as a crop field, the effects of the erosion were significant, thinnifiing the upper layer of the soil. It makes the life of the plants a bit more difficult, but also increases the mineral character of our wines, strenghtening their terroir aspects, which is one of our main intentions.
